15 January 2020, Petaling Jaya – The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia and Singapore (MPL-MY/SG) is back for its fifth season with a total prize pool of RM410,000. Aspiring teams will be able to register for the qualifying stage of this tournament starting 20th January to 2nd February 2020. An official registration form will be available starting 20th January 2020 on the official MLBB Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MobileLegendsGameMalaysia/.

The qualifying rounds

Similar to previous seasons, there will be two separate qualifying rounds – one for Malaysia and one for Singapore. The Malaysian qualifiers will commence from 7th to 9th February 2020, while the Singaporean qualifiers will take place from 15th to 16th February 2020. Two (2) Malaysian teams and one (1) Singaporean team who top their respective qualifiers will get to progress to the Regular Season of the tournament.

The Regular Season

Set to start on 29th February 2020, the 6-week round robin Regular Season will see the return of seven (7) directly invited teams from the MPL-MY/SG Season 4 Playoffs, with four (4) teams coming from Malaysia and three (3) from Singapore. An update to the rulebook this season will allow direct entry to invited teams as long as they retain 50% of their roster (3 out of 6 players). This new update takes on a more relaxed approach compared to previous seasons where teams had to retain 60% of their roster (4 out of 6 players) to be directly invited.

The upcoming Regular Season will continue to utilise the differential point system that was introduced in Season 4. Teams will be ranked based on the number of best-of-three matches won, and in the event of a tiebreaker, the teams’ win-loss differential (number of games won minus number of games lost) will first be considered. The higher the differential number, the higher a team will rank. Top eight teams from the Regular Season standings will get to compete in the Season 5 Playoffs, which will happen on 18 and 19 April 2020.
